I believe that one thing lacking in the Social Media Application Craze is a full featured reliable and reputable means of monetizing applications. As soon as someone steps up and takes control, we will see a huge flood of investment money and applications galore. Sadly to say, they will most likely be Generics. But we can only hope for the best.

I would tend to agree. To date, all these “fb app” specific ad networks have only offered the feature of making their ads look somewhat like facebook, and resize to fit the canvas page.

None of them are leveraging the facebook platform itself. Consider the fact that link exchanges and ad networks currently will display an “install app” ad to people regardless of whether or not they have ALREADY installed the app!

To me, this is an egregious waste of impressions as well as clicks (unless the purpose of the campaign is to remind people they have the app installed, but that could be achieved for free via a facebook-sent email every once in a while).
